A Data-Oriented Model of Context in Hypertext Authoring
نویسنده
چکیده
The advent of Internet-based communication and its utilization in intranets is accompanied by a deeper insight into the status of natural language texts as units of information processing in organizations. Their task specific accessibility and user-friendly pre-processing are decisive for efficient knowledge sharing in social, academic, and economic contexts. In order to realize this demand, texts have to be semi-automatically analyzed in order to explore the dynamic interrelationship of task, context, and textual information base as determinants of knowledge acquisition and distribution. But texts are—other than formal data structures—characterized by implicit structuring. The coherence relations by means texts function as linguistic manifestations of communication processes are neither explicitly annotated on surface-level, nor do they deterministically follow a pre-established rule system. This paper describes a conceptual model of so called Systemic Functional Hypertexts which addresses the relationship of text and context. It focuses on a conceptual model of building blocks as being pertinent to context modelling in the area of hypertext authoring. The model is based on Systemic Functional Linguistics and utilizes techniques of conceptual modelling. Its aim is the distinction and interrelation of context units as a preparatory step to their semi-automatic exploration.

The Florida State University College of Education a Cognitive Model of Knowledge Transformation in Authoring Hypertext By
The primary purpose of this study was to propose a grounded theory of knowledge transformation in the hypertext authoring process. More specifically, the present study attempted to answer the following two questions: 1) what cognitive processes are involved in knowledge transformation through hypertext authoring and 2) how are these cognitive processes interrelated. For the first question, this...
متن کاملObject-Oriented Hypertext Design : Authoring for Reuse
In this paper we present a new approach for the development of hypertext information systems that avoids a number of traditional hypermedia authoring problems, and facilitates the maintenance of links and the reuse of information resources. The model is set-based, and integrates features from object-oriented software design models. This helps authors to make a comprehensive (and comprehensible)...
متن کاملContext-Aware Digital Documents Described in a High-Level Petri Net-Based Hypermedia System
As mobile computing becomes widespread, so will the need for digital document delivery by hypertextual means. A further trend will be the provision of the ability for devices to determine where they are, e.g., through the inclusion of GPS sensors, as will the need for devices to operate on heterogeneous networks. Consequently, hypertext systems supporting these devices will benefit if they also...
متن کاملComponents of a Model of Context-Sensitive Hypertexts
On the background of rising Intranet applications the automatic generation of adaptable, context-sensitive hypertexts becomes more and more important [El-Beltagy et al., 2001]. This observation contradicts the literature on hypertext authoring, where Information Retrieval techniques prevail, which disregard any linguistic and context-theoretical underpinning. As a consequence, resulting hyperte...
متن کاملDesigning Hypertext Support for Computational Applications
dismiss the possibility of hypertext support for computational applications, when in fact hypertext functionality can supplement an application’s computational power. In this article we describe how developers can incorporate hypertext functionality into computational applications. What benefit do users gain from hypertext support in computational applications? Managing the myriad of interrelat...
